What are Greenhouse Gases?

The Top 5 Greenhouse Gases to Know

1. Carbon Dioxide (CO2): Released through fossil fuel combustion, land-use changes, and industrial processes, CO2 is the most prevalent greenhouse gas, responsible for around 65% of human-caused global warming.

2. Methane (CH4): Mainly produced through agriculture, natural gas and oil systems, and landfills, methane has a global warming potential 28 times higher than CO2 over a 100-year time frame.

3. Nitrous Oxide (N2O): Emitted from agricultural activities, industrial processes, and the use of nitrogen-based fertilizers, N2O has a global warming potential 265-298 times higher than CO2.

4. Fluorinated Gases (F-gases): Used in air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical equipment, F-gases have a global warming potential 7,000-23,900 times higher than CO2.

5. Ozone (O3): While naturally occurring, human activities such as industrial processes, transportation, and agricultural practices have increased ozone levels, contributing to climate change.
