As the world collectively tries to reduce our carbon footprint and transition to cleaner energy sources, the focus has largely been on solar and wind power. While it may not have the flash and dash of solar panels or wind turbines, tidal energy has been quietly gaining momentum, and it’s about to disrupt the renewable energy landscape in a big way.

Tidal energy harnesses the power of the ocean’s tides to generate electricity. It’s a predictable and reliable source of energy, unlike solar and wind, which can be intermittent and subject to weather conditions. This makes tidal energy an attractive option for countries and utilities looking to diversify their energy mix and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.

However, these concerns are being addressed through careful planning and design, including the use of eco-friendly materials and careful siting of tidal energy farms.

In the next decade, we can expect to see a significant increase in the deployment of tidal energy technologies, particularly in countries with high tidal ranges, such as the UK, Canada, and China. As the cost of tidal energy continues to drop, we’ll see more and more utilities and countries turning to it as a reliable and predictable source of power.

In fact, some estimates suggest that tidal energy could provide up to 10% of the world’s electricity by 2050, making it a critical component of a low-carbon energy mix. And with the world’s leading innovators and researchers pouring resources into developing tidal energy technologies, it’s an exciting time to be a part of this growing industry.
