It might mean rethinking our relationship with technology, and finding ways to harness its power for the benefit of all people, not just a privileged few. And it might mean recognizing that the true wealth of a society lies not in its GDP, but in the health of its ecosystems, the resilience of its communities, and the well-being of its citizens.
In other words, instead of trying to “develop” our way to sustainability, we need to start thinking about how to live in a way that’s truly sustainable – one that’s grounded in the realities of our world, rather than the abstract ideals of our imaginations. It’s a daunting task, to be sure, but one that’s long overdue.
