As I stood in the midst of a thriving community in rural Africa, I witnessed firsthand the impact of energy storage on everyday lives. A decade ago, this village was plagued by frequent power outages and limited access to clean energy. But then, a innovative team of engineers introduced a cutting-edge energy storage system, harnessing the power of the sun during the day to illuminate homes and businesses at night. The transformation was nothing short of remarkable. Children could study under the soft glow of LED lights, women could run small businesses, and entire families could enjoy a reliable supply of clean energy.

At its core, next-gen energy storage refers to advanced battery technologies that are capable of storing energy more efficiently, safely, and sustainably than their predecessors. These innovations have been years in the making, driven by the convergence of breakthroughs in materials science, artificial intelligence, and engineering.
