Despite these challenges, the cost of renewable energy is still likely to become increasingly competitive in the coming years. As technology continues to improve and economies of scale are achieved through mass production, the cost of solar and wind power is expected to decline further. Moreover, the long-term benefits of renewable energy – including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality – can be difficult to put a price on.
