Graphite, the soft, black, and silky-smooth substance you find in your pencil lead, has been quietly revolutionizing the battery industry. New breakthroughs in graphite-based battery technology have the potential to make lithium-ion batteries a thing of the past. So, what’s behind this sudden graphite renaissance?

One of the main driving forces behind graphite’s resurgence is its unique chemical properties. Graphite is an excellent conductor of electricity and has a high surface area, making it an ideal material for battery electrodes. But what really sets graphite apart is its abundance. Unlike lithium, which is a rare and expensive metal, graphite is found in vast quantities all over the world.
