At its core, pumped hydro storage (PHS) is a simple yet ingenious concept. One of the key advantages of PHS is its scalability. Unlike traditional battery storage systems, which can be limited by their size and cost, PHS can be built on a massive scale, with some facilities covering hundreds of acres. This makes it an attractive option for utilities and grid operators looking to integrate more renewable energy sources into their mix.
